Hamilton United 1-3 Darby FC: Report – League1 Cup

In the final match of the opening round of the Men’s League 1 Cup, we travelled to Ron Joyce Stadium last night to cover what would be an interesting match between Hamilton United and Darby FC.

Hamilton started strong, but a 14th minute own goal by Muaz Saleh off an unfortunate miscommunication put them on the chase going into the second half. However, in the 53rd minute, Elton Nyumah made it level for the home team, which was a tie that lasted only 8 minutes with Nigel Buckley scoring in the 61st and Colin Reilly scoring a wonderful free kick shortly after to make it 3-1 in the 66th minute (see clip attached below).

Unfortunately, some efforts and changes were not enough and Hamilton fell just short, losing the tie 3-1 against a well organized and determined Darby FC. Hamilton will look to reset as they open their regular season with a big match against Guelph United on Saturday, while Darby FC will look to carry this momentum into Friday, where they host TFC ACADEMY in their home opener.
