Last night’s match was definitely one to watch as two top teams in League1 Premier faced off in what was sure to be one to remember. The game picked up right away, with both sides exchanging chances and both teams really working for a very important three points which for NDC would see them staying top of the table and for Woodbridge, it could mean jumping back into the top 3.

In the 12th minute, Samantha Murphy absorbed one tackle in the box, before being taken down hard and leading to a penalty shot for the Strikers, which she made no mistake with and buried to make the game 1-0.

From there, again it was a contested match and it looked like Woodbridge would go into the half time break up a goal, until Annabell Chukwu, with quite literally the last kick of the game, got on the end of a pass and scored to make it 1-1 at the half.

The second half however was definitely one to remember. Lots of hard tackles, lots of back and forth action and three goals to report. First, in the 49th minute, Mikayla Coore-Pascal got on the end of a through ball and calmly chipped the ball over GK Anika Toth, to give NDC the lead.

In the 70th minute or so, Woodbridge thought they got the tying goal, when Ida Miceli got on the end of a Cat Rogers corner kick to put the Strikers back level in the game. However, the referee disallowed the goal for an apparent foul on the goalie. With our online poll of over 200 votes, approximately 86% of voters found that there was no foul and only 14% voted that the foul was there, so it was definitely a controversial call to say the least.

But alas, the Strikers would not leave empty handed and after some clever time wasting from the NDC faithful, Samantha Murphy got on the end of a beautiful Cat Rogers ball to tie the game in the 94th minute and win a point back for her team. Her 12th of the season, Murphy’s goal was definitely deserved for the team as Woodbridge definitely felt hard done by with that disallowed goal earlier in the match.
