We covered an incredible match last night at Coyer Field between #6 FC Berlin and #3 Amlima FC. FC Berlin ended up hosting the match after Amlima was unable to secure a home field for the match, which gave the team a much needed home field advantage.

After a slow first half, Amlima took the lead, after a free kick found the back of the net from just outside the box, early in the second half. Both teams were exchanging chances and Amlima was the first to take advantage.

FC Berlin continued to press forward, desperate for an equalizer that would see their season extended and not end at the first round of playoffs for the third consecutive year.

After some close but unsuccessful set pieces for the home team, it would be the D’Youville youngster Charlie Stewart who would smash home a one time finish after the ball was punched out and the goalie was out to equalize in the 90th minute and send the game to over time!

Extra time was needed to separate the teams and FC Berlin would take their chances late

The FC Berlin side came into the extra time periods with a lot of confidence, momentum and motivation. Right from the first kick into the first period, the boys continued to press, finding gaps in the Amlima defence and creating a few more chances, off some corners and regular play. However, we would go into the first intermission with the game still tied 1-1 and all to play for.

FC Berlin, who had worked so hard and defended so well, would see their efforts repaid once and for all, as Alex Khademi would get on the end of a Malik Watson corner kick to put FC Berlin up 2-1 in the 108th minute and Brett Springer would capitalize on a late slip by the Amlima centerback and calmly slot home the 3-1 goal in the 120th minute, to send FC Berlin into the next round of the tournament.

Hats off to FC Berlin for a job well done, coming from behind to win the game and scoring two goals in the dying minutes of regular and added time to secure the win. They now look forward to facing off against FCY New York on June 30th, back at Coyer Field for an Away game that is sure to be a show.
