Woodbridge makes a big statement in their first match of 2024
In an electrifying kickoff to the 2024 Spring/Summer season, the Woodbridge Strikers dazzled the crowd with an impressive 4-1 victory over Unionville-Milliken SC in League 1 Ontario Men’s Cup action at Vaughan Grove field today.
The match ignited with intensity from the outset, as both teams battled fiercely, resulting in a flurry of yellow cards in the first period. However, it was in the second half that the home team truly shone. Jacob Spizziri and Justin Cicchilo wasted no time in asserting dominance, finding the back of the net in quick succession. Anthony Morano added to the excitement with another goal just five minutes later, propelling the Strikers to a commanding 3-0 lead.
Unionville-Milliken’s fortunes took a turn for the worse when Abubakar Hussein received his second caution of the day, forcing his departure from the field and leaving his team shorthanded. Despite the setback, they managed to claw one goal back courtesy of Dominic Parris. Yet, any hopes of a comeback were swiftly dashed when Ronaldo Marshall sealed the deal with a late goal, securing a resounding 4-1 victory for Woodbridge. Throughout the final period, both teams traded chances, but it was Woodbridge who consistently looked more dangerous in attack. Their relentless pressure paid dividends, delivering an emphatic start to the season.
With momentum on their side, the Strikers now set their sights on their first League encounter. On Sunday, April 28th, they’ll hit the road to face Blue Devils FC at Sheridan Trafalgar Campus in Oakville, eager to carry forward the momentum from this stellar performance.
