FC Berlin secures a spot in the postseason even before they play their final regular season game
There was good news in store for FC Berlin this Wednesday night, as the team punched its ticket to the playoffs due to Syracuse FC’s victory over Upstate United. This is FC Berlin’s fourth time in the elimination rounds in as many attempts. While this is a great accomplishment on its own, things could go even better this weekend, as there is still a chance for Berlin to end the regular season in 4th place and host a playoff game for the first time.
Rochester NY FC (8-1-0) has already clinched the regular season title and gets a bye in the first round, with 25 points and an impressive +21 goal difference. In second place, we find FCY New York (5-4-0) with 19 points and a +11 goal average, followed by Amlima FC with 18 points (5-3-1) and a +6. The second place will go to either of these two teams after this weekend. They both have games against teams that have already been eliminated: Amlima FC will host Upstate United FC (2-1-6) and FCY New York will visit Kilimanjaro Bandits FC (1-2-6).
The remaining three teams advancing are Smugtown FC (4-2-3), Syracuse FC (3-3-3) and FC Berlin (3-2-4). The order in which these teams will appear at the end of the regular season will also be determined after this weekend’s games.
Smugtown currently has the advantage, sitting at 14 points with a 0-goal difference. Syracuse is only two points behind with a +1 average, and Berlin has 11 points and a +2. If Smugtown wins (not an easy task, as they will play against Rochester NY FC), they will secure 4th place. If they tie and Syracuse wins, the 4th place will go to this team. Finally, if Smugtown loses, Syracuse doesn’t win and Berlin does, our team will take 4th place and host the first playoff game.
As you can see, we will be doing a lot of math this weekend! You can check our live standings here. We will keep you posted!
